A serious accident on Diamond Springs Road in Virginia Beach on Sunday, December 28, 2025, resulted in the tragic death of a motorcyclist after a vehicle turned into his path.
According to Virginia Beach Police, emergency responders received a call at 11:38 a.m. reporting a crash involving a motorcycle on Diamond Springs Road near the intersection of Hampshire Lane. Police and first responders arrived to find the motorcyclist with life-threatening injuries.
The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he sadly died from his injuries. A preliminary investigation determined that the motorcycle rider was traveling south on Diamond Springs Road when another vehicle turned in front of him, causing the crash.
The driver of the other vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. The crash is still under investigation.
Left-Turn Accidents & Motorcycles
Collisions involving vehicles turning in front of motorcycles are one of the most dangerous scenarios for riders. These incidents often occur when a driver misjudges the speed or distance of an approaching motorcycle, or fails to see the motorcycle altogether.
Motorcycles occupy less visual space than passenger vehicles, making them easier to overlook, particularly when a driver is focused on looking for larger vehicles. This phenomenon, sometimes referred to as “looked but failed to see,” can lead to devastating consequences when a driver executes a turn directly into a motorcycle’s path.
The vulnerability of motorcyclists in these situations cannot be overstated. Unlike occupants of passenger vehicles, motorcyclists lack the protective structure of a car or truck. Even at moderate speeds, the impact from a left-turn collision can result in catastrophic injuries or wrongful death.
Legal Rights After a Fatal Motorcycle Crash
When a motorcyclist is killed in a collision caused by another driver’s negligence, Virginia law provides certain family members with the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. These claims serve both to compensate the family for their unimaginable losses and to hold negligent drivers accountable.
Under Virginia law, wrongful death claims may be brought by the personal representative of the deceased person’s estate on behalf of surviving beneficiaries. Families who have lost a loved one in a fatal motorcycle crash may be entitled to compensation for various losses, including:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Medical expenses incurred before death
- Loss of financial support and income
- Loss of companionship, guidance, and care
- Mental anguish and emotional suffering
- Loss of services the deceased would have provided
Each case involves unique circumstances, and the full value of a claim depends on numerous factors.
Dealing With Insurance Companies
Fatal motorcycle crash claims often involve both the at-fault driver’s liability insurance and additional coverage sources. However, insurance companies may attempt to minimize their financial exposure by disputing liability, questioning the value of the claim, or offering settlements that do not fully account for the family’s losses.
Families dealing with the grief of losing a loved one should not have to navigate these challenges alone. Working with an experienced Virginia wrongful death attorney can help ensure that insurance companies fulfill their obligations and that families receive fair compensation for their losses.
