Legal Options for Car Accident Victims in Hampton Roads
When a car accident results in serious injuries caused by another driver’s negligence, Virginia law allows injured victims to pursue compensation through a personal injury claim.
Serious injuries from car crashes often result in significant medical expenses, lost wages, and long-term physical and emotional challenges. Virginia personal injury claims can address both economic and non-economic damages, including:
- Medical bills and ongoing treatment costs
- Lost income and reduced earning capacity
- Pain and suffering
- Permanent disability or disfigurement
- Loss of quality of life
- Wrongful death of a loved one
The severity of injuries plays a critical role in the amount of compensation awarded in Virginia a car crash injury claim.
Insurance Companies and Serious Injury Claims
After a serious car accident, insurance companies often begin their investigation immediately. Adjusters may contact injured victims while they are still receiving treatment, sometimes seeking recorded statements or offering quick low-ball settlements.
It is important to understand that insurance companies are focused on minimizing payouts, even when injuries are severe and clearly caused by their policyholder’s negligence. Early settlement offers rarely account for the full extent of medical treatment needed, future complications, or long-term impacts on a victim’s ability to work and enjoy life.
Injured victims should be cautious about providing statements or accepting settlement offers without first consulting with a local car accident attorney who can evaluate the true value of their claim.
